Event Name: Nonviolent Protest Event Locator: 2024-AASGPD Event State: Confirmed Organization: Gros Institute In this presentation, Dr. Laurette Liesen will examine the vast array of methods used in nonviolent protests, noncooperation, and interventions that have been analyzed by Gene Sharp. He was a political scientist, founder of the Albert Einstein Institute, and scholar of nonviolent political action. He sees nonviolent political action and peaceful resistance as a means of applying power in conflicts with dictatorial governments. Lili Martinez (Class of 2024) will share her experience in planning a nonviolent protest on the Lewis campus against the violence and deaths of the Parkland shooting in 2018.
